Most parents have high hopes and aspirations for their children. Fanney Khan is the story of one such parent, who wants his daughter to become highly successful in life. It is also common to see parents wanting their children to achieve goals that they themselves could not achieve in their lives. This reality of life has also been captured in the movie. In such cases, parents often go overboard to ensure that their child achieves their goal. This can put enormous pressure on both the parent and the child and there may be consequences if things are stretched beyond limits.
Fanney Khan is the story about Prashant Sharma (Anil Kapoor) and his daughter Lata (Pihu Sand). Prashant always wanted to become a top singer, but he could not achieve his dream in his life. Due to his high ambitions, his friends call him Fanney Khan. When his daughter was born, Prashant started nurturing the dream to make her a top singer. He even named her Lata after the famous singer. When Lata grows up and reaches her teens, she displays considerable talent for singing and dancing. However, Prashant soon realizes that mere talent is not enough to achieve success in today’s world. The industry demands a lot of cash, something that Prashant does not have. This is when Prashant decides to kidnap top singer Baby Singh (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) and use the ransom money to finance his daughter’s career. However, things do not go as planned and everyone involved is in for a rough ride.
The star of this movie is Anil Kapoor, who has been phenomenal in his role of a middle class father. The high hopes that the character has for his child and the dilemma and frustration of not being able to support their dreams financially, has been perfectly captured by Anil Kapoor. Pihu Sand has also delivered a good performance, capturing all the idiosyncrasies of a teenager with talent and big dreams. Other actors including Rajkummar Rao, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and Divya Dutta have also delivered good performances.
The movie has its moments of glory, even though it appears to lose traction at times. Watch Fanney Khan for its superb comic timing and an interesting climax that will appeal to your heart.
