MUMBAI, March 10, 2019 The Wadia Group hosted C. N. Wadia Gold Cup today at Mahalaxmi Racecourse, Mumbai in memory of Sir Cusrow Wadia. The event was organized to recognize the contribution of Sir Cusrow N Wadia, a great visionary and philanthropist of the Wadia Family. Dr Minnie Bodhanwala, CEO, Wadia Hospitals, Mr Aloke Banerjee, CEO, Bombay Dyeing (Retail) and other Senior Officials from the Wadia Group were present during the occasion. The event also coincided with the completion of 100 years of Britannia Industries, one of India’s leading Food Companies.

The event held at The Paddock area of the Race Course was buzzing with programmes and performances that aimed to highlight and enhance awareness on the issue of malnutrition.

Wadia Hospitals and Britannia Nutrition Foundation (BNF) have undertaken several initiatives to address the issue of malnutrition which has affected number of children and lactating mothers in several parts of the country. BNF is a non-profit organization aimed to address malnutrition in children. 29 per cent of the population of the country is children below 5 years. Over 1.25 million (12.5 lakh) children are dying from malnutrition, underweight related problems every year across the nation, according to Government reports.
In view of the chronic widespread of malnutrition and anemia prevalent in Rikhia Panchayat and surrounding villages (Rikhiyapeeth, Jharkhand State), a pilot project has been undertaken by Sir Ness Wadia Foundation (SNWF)  in association with Shivanand Math  to improve the nutrition status in the society and eventually prevent malnutrition and anemia. SNWF is a non-profit organization, set up to work for the empowerment of the underprivileged sections of our society to fulfil their basic needs of health, education and livelihood.

Yet another malnutrition project implemented by SNWF, at Palghar District, Maharashtra, aims to improve health status of young children between the age group of 0-6 years and pregnant and lactating mothers. Medical intervention for this project is provided by Wadia Hospitals.

Malnutrition is a major problem of public health significance in Tamiya block of Chhindwara district. About 13.6% of the children are severely underweight. It is a major contributor to high rates of childhood mortality, maternal mortality and morbidities in the community. SNWF in association with Institute of Development for Youth, Women and Children aimed to improve nutrition and health status by reducing rates of acute malnutrition in target communities with a focus on women, infants & young children and other at risk groups of population through an integrated, gender equal, environmentally sustainable systems approach to food practices. The activities include health check-up camps, awareness sessions for pregnant and lactating mothers, distribution of iron-fortified biscuits (provided by BNF), nutrition gardens for the families with SAM & MAM.

In addition to this, Britannia Nutrition Foundation (BNF) also supports projects in Jaipur and Uttara Kannada to address iron deficiency in children, adolescents and women by introducing iron fortified ready-to-eat-biscuits as a palatable, efficacious and an additional source of iron supplementation.
