LitmusWorld busting COVID-19 myths

Mumbai, April 23, 2020: LitmusWorld, an enterprise SaaS CX platform, recently conducted a survey under its ‘People Pulse initiative’ that captured insights from over 1100 respondents to share their knowledge of COVID-19 through the "COVID-19 Myth Busters Quiz". The quiz was designed using authentic and verified information from the World Health Organization to measure the level of awareness around COVID-19.

The survey busted many myths of COVID-19 that people believed to be true and educated them on the various preventive and countermeasures to tackle coronavirus.

Interestingly, the survey also highlighted the news consumption pattern of the people which depicted, people with an average score of 8.3/10 consumed their information through Print/Digital news channels fared far better than those who get it through WhatsApp & Twitter.

Mentioned below are the top 10myths busted by LitmusWorld that need to be seeded right.

1) Myth: 23% of the respondents believe that Coronavirus cannot survive in temperatures above 27-degrees.
Reality: Coronavirus can be transmitted in areas with hot and humid climates

2) Myth: 21% of the respondents believe that mosquitoes can act as transmission agents for Coronavirus
Reality: The virus cannot be transmitted via mosquitoes

3) Myth: 14.5% of the respondents believe that hand dryers are effective in killing the Coronavirus.
Reality: Hand dryers are not effective in killing the virus. One should frequently clean hands with an alcohol based hand rub

4) Myth: 41% of the respondents believe that thermal scanning is effective in detecting patients with Coronavirus.
Reality: Thermal scanning cannot detect people who are infected but are not yet sick with fever

5) Myth: 21% of the respondents believe the spraying alcohol all over their body will help them stay safe from Coronavirus.
Reality: Spraying alcohol or chlorine all over your body will not kill viruses that have already entered your body 

6) Myth: 16% of the respondents believe that vaccines against pneumonia can be used to cure COVID-19.
Reality: Vaccines against pneumonia, such as pneumococcal vaccine and haemophilus influenza type B vaccine, do not provide protection against coronavirus

7) Myth: 42% of the respondents believe that regularly rinsing their nose with saline water can help them stay immune to Coronavirus.
Reality: There is no evidence that regularly rinsing the nose with saline has protected people from infection with the virus

8) Myth: 23% of the respondents believe that eating Garlic can help in preventing Coronavirus
Reality: Garlic has antimicrobial properties that is healthy but there is no evidence that it can cure the virus

9) Myth: 12% of the respondents still believe that Coronavirus only affects people in the older age bracket.
Reality: People of all ages can be infected by the new coronavirus

10) Myth: 33% of the respondents believe that antibiotics are effective in treating COVID-19.
Reality: Antibiotics cannot be used as means of prevention or treatment for any virus. One may still be given antibiotics since bacterial co-infection is possible when an individual is hospitalized for coronavirus
